My Final Words On Jimbo Fisher: Men Do What They Have To Do, Boys Do What They Want To Do

In my head I have been working on this post since Friday, December 1, 2017 at 1:29 p.m. Like most things I want to remember, or not as the case may be, I screenshotted the banners on my phone as they announced Jimbo Fisher to Texas A&M. I am not going to lie. I cried in the car as I drove down the road (READ: I WAS A MESS). We had ONE coach for 35 years (Bobby). Then Jimbo for 8 seasons. We don't change coaches like we change underwear. This wasn't supposed to be our fate as Seminole fans. We don't worry season after season if our coach will remain (although we have the last few years). We became numb to the repeated off season banter about Jimbo Fisher being courted by team so-and-so. We had been lulled to sleep with his "I will not comment about coaching jobs". We had a false sense of security because he had turned down so many other opportunities. But some how this year was different, as I read articles and listened to pod casts about in fighting between coaches, coaches leaving away games separately from the team. And after Jimbo was long gone we hear reports (fake or not) that he hadn't recruited in months. And probably the most disconcerting was text message after text message coming into my phone throughout November, my friends (mostly non-FSU fans) telling me about how they hear Jimbo is gone for sure after the season is over.  And yet, here we are in this place. Maybe I should say in this place where my Dad texts me to ask if I am still all in with FSU. Does the sun come up in the east everyday? Does a bear go potty in the woods? Nothing has changed besides who is the head coach. My loyalty and enthusiasm is still where it should be residing. I'm still that girl in 1992 with a FSU shirt (2 years before a National Championship).

After listening to the post game press conference with Coach Haggins and a few of the players, I decided it was time to say my peace.  And as I flipped open my laptop and log onto this site, I realize the last blog post I had made was a post in July 2016 about a YouTube video with all of these locker room speeches Jimbo had made to the team at one point or another. All those notable quotes laid out on my blog. As I read them, I kept wondering, were they really meant when they were spoken? I mean, was any of the Jimbo Fisher era real? Was the sentiment behind it real? "It got personal" Oh, you think? "You make the helmet, the helmet doesn't make you." I don't know if that's really true in this case. And I can quote you 75 million reasons why that might not be true. "That is not fair, MDK." Oh yeah it is. You know why it is fair? Because I'm pretty sure none of us really truly know why he left. There's been rumors: PERSONAL REASONS HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL (which cover a MYRIAD of reasons), he wanted this or that and the administration would not give it to him, the fans were too hard on him (*insert eye roll* He has not seen anything yet in regards to fans. A&M like to death threat their coaches when they don't win enough. See Kevin Sumlin's wife, Also see Tammy From Auburn), With all Due Respect, Monk Bonasorte (RIP) was the buffer between Jimbo and the administration, AD and Boosters and now their was no one to adequately fill that roll, he became frustrated and left (okaaay), and he wanted to be back in the SEC (*Insert Eye Roll*).

Ultimately, none of the reasons matter, nor will they change the outcome. I can say for a certainty that I have no desire to see Jimbo Fisher on the opposite sideline vs. FSU. Ever. I wish him well. I am grateful for everything he did for FSU. But watching him build his team, interact with A&M fans and give interviews is like watching your newly departed boyfriend court a new girl. It is awkward. And for someone who cried in the car, it is just too painful. I have taken steps to reduce the amount of A&M news in my feed. I wish him well, but I just can't watch.

Even now, I can't even fully describe his leaving without getting choked up. That's ridiculous right? Probably I just don't like changes. And once things get rolling, (the bowl game was a great 1st step today) I will feel better about this situation. Maybe.

I leave with more questions than answers. Especially after reading my previous blog. I will leave you with one final thought, if men do what they have to do and boys do what they want to do, which are you Jimbo, a man or a boy?

My Favorite Jimbo Fisher Quotes

In honor of Jimbo Fisher's "Car Wash Day" at ESPN (where the coaches interview at all the different ESPN Shows). I decided to dust off this list of Jimbo Fisher quotes I've been holding on to for some time. (Incidentally, Jimbo is one of the only coaches in the NCAA who DOESN'T have a Twitter account)

What's so exciting about Jimbo Fisher quotes?! Are you kidding?! The man is pure gold. One day I happened upon a 14 minute YouTube video of Jimbo Fisher giving pre game and half time speeches. So I made note of some of my favorite:

-Big rock in the road. You don't go around it. You don't hope it will move. YOU remove it.

-Emotion and wanting to win are important but execution is critical.

-You have to TAKE everything you get. No one will give you anything.

-Love is the reason for the fight.

-Everything is about us. How we play, what we do, how we think, how we feel. From the first play to the last play. The reckoning.

-Love is the reason you play. The people you love and your teammates. When it is all said and done. That's what you remember.

-2 guys in the ring. One guy wins.

-This country ain't seen Florida State Football. They about to tonight.

-The game don't care who wins it. You determine what happen

-It ain't about the show, it's about the go.

-You make the helmet. The helmet doesn't make you.

-The play don't care who makes it.

-Show me a guy without expectation and I'll show you a guy that hasn't achieved anything and doesn't expect anything from himself.

-It got personal.

-It's our house. It's our stadium. We are Florida State.

And more recently, Jimbo was speaking to kids at his football camp and said this:

-Men do what they have to do. Boys do what they want to do.

These quotes aren't earth shattering. But they are thought provoking and have fueled a large amount of success at Florida State and at the next level, the NFL.

My Self-Imposed Football Exile

A couple of months ago as I prepared a roaring (insert eye roll) resurgence back into my blogging, someone asked if I was going to put up anymore rants. They called my blog a rant. I personally didn't feel that was accurate since I have put SEVERAL very informative blogs. The most popular of which is Murdered Out Cars and The Jacksonville Jaguars. How about Why I Usually Cheer For A Gator Win Florida-Georgia Weekend? Those are not rants. They are beautiful pieces of football art.

Then something else seemed to be happening. All of a sudden people/fans of mostly the Jaguar persuasion were eager to be associated with Jaguar fandom. They were starting pages, getting kicked out of pages for the wrong opinion, saying COMPLETELY OUTRAGEOUS things on FB fan pages, and worst of all, writing articles every 5 minutes about every hair on every Jaguar players head. The absolute pinnacle of ridiculousness was an article about how overrated Rashad Greene was/is. That was it. I'd had enough. I am a huge FSU fan and I'm sure everyone thinks I'm biased. That's fine and maybe I am. But I also know a good football player when I see one. Rashad Greene is a good football player. To add insult to injury, the blog itself was very Pro-UF. Now look. I try to be objective about talent of my favorite teams and be real with myself about good/bad they are. BUT JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE PLAYED FOR FSU DOESN'T MAKE THAT PERSON OVERRATED. DONE. DONE. DONE.

After I cooled down, and let's face it, it took quite a while, I realized I wasn't ready to write again. I didn't want to say things/type ideas that were already said or go over and over the same things. What could I possibly have to say that hasn't already been said? People actually think I vent my spleen?!

I don't want that to be the perception. It's just not a good look for me.

I still have more things to say. Let's face it. This blog is for me more than everyone else. My whole life, I just wanted to be heard.

And sometimes, this blog is the only way that happens.

Late Football Season Hodge Podge

As this football season comes to a close, several things have transpired. I could write a book on each one, but I don't have that much time or space.

1. How did FSU lose to the University of Houston??!! How??! How was that possible?

2. So, let me get this right... you warn 2 teams (Steelers and Bengals) that there should be no funny business during their playoff game. So what happens?! A bunch of nonsense involving the Bengals players and the Steelers coaches. My solution? In a perfect world, the Steelers shouldn't be in the playoffs. There, I said it. Should. Not. Be. There. And neither should the Bengals. They were both warned about their actions. But I'm really wondering what they were threatened with for punishment. Fines are great and the money goes to charity but Come On Man. Want to know how to stop the nonsense? Make them lose draft picks. And not 6 round draft picks. The behavior all the way around was shameful. Marvin Lewis and Mike Tomlin need to take a serious look in the mirror. Get a hold of yourselves Gentlemen. Get control of your coaches and players.

3. NFL league office, I have a question for you: What is a catch???!!! When former and current players calling a game/giving commentary can't tell you why a catch isn't a catch it's time to get a hold of yourselves and BE CLEAR ABOUT IT. Also, if you are serious about launching and head injuries, then be stiffer with penalties.

4. To the "poor" female Bengals fan, Girl, I'm sorry for your pain. I'm sorry it has begun to be in vogue to show football fans shocked and sad that their football team is about to lose a close game. It's been VERY prevalent on ESPN Saturday college football games. And now, a NFL fan whose team is in the playoffs, her team does some REALLY dumb things at the end of the game, somebody puts a camera on her. Nobody REALLY feels her pain. Everybody instead making fun of her for being sad about her team losing. I can't say for certain but I'm pretty sure her husband didn't buy her that shirt (for those that are new here, that implies that this girl is in charge of her fan hood, she needs no man to tell her which team (or colors) to cheer for, she wasn't bored on a Saturday night and showed up to a Bengals Playoff game). And maybe or maybe not (more like quite probably) I would have done the same. But thanks to her, I now know I need to cover my face when I use emotion at a football game.

5. Why did FSU lose to Houston??!! WHYYYY???!!

6. Dear FSU fans, There will NEVER be another FSU team assembled like the 2013 and 2014 FSU football team. EVER. Statistically those players who have gone to the NFL from those 2 years have done incredible things. So let's not be disappointed Sean Maguire and Everett Golson were not Jameis Winston. Bobo Wilson is NOT Kelvin Benjamin. Yet. So, let's thank Jimbo Fisher for accomplishing this crazy feat among football and giving us 2 incredible seasons!! And hope he strives for more incredible things!!!

7. ESPN has a major bias against FSU. I promise you haven't heard this reason yet. I made a sign for the Peach Bowl. It had ESPN on it, in glitter no less and I received no airtime. I even had my young nephews wielding the signs. So, my message to ESPN is grow up. You are steadily losing viewers and having to cut jobs. Figure out a way to make FSU fans happy. BTW, one of your biggest personalities, Sam Ponder, is married to a former FSU Quarterback and named their daughter Bowden St. Claire (they call her Scout. She's an Instagram star). So there's that.

8. Why did FSU lose to Houston? #TrapGame

Stay Tuned.

Why I Usually Cheer For A Gator Win On Florida-Georgia Weekend

Last weekend was particularly difficult for me. Georgia Tech beat FSU on a last second blocked field goal attempt and returned for a touchdown with no time left essentially. *SIGH* It was bad enough that my husband's team, GT, won. But what followed the game, honestly, made me a little disgusted.

My husband, blissfully asleep during said last play of the game, had no idea until the morning what the final score was at the end of the game. In fact, he didn't even have to turn on Sportscenter. All he had to do was look at his phone. 3 Congratulatory text Messages. 2 from Gator fans. 1 from a Ga Tech fan (technically doesn't count because it was his dad. LOL). FSU hadn't lost a ACC conference game in almost 3 yrs. so it stung a little.

So Friday in my office someone said "Who are you rooting for this weekend?" and seeing my FSU shirt backtracked and said "oh that's right. You are a FSU fan so your probably cheering for Georgia!"

Not so fast. I usually cheer for Florida. I know. Why would I want to do something like that? They do nothing but torture me and even when we went to they Natty, they cheered for Auburn citing SEC loyalty. What do they call the enemy of my enemy? My friend. So I need Georgia to lay down every year.

Just so we can gain some perspective, let's talk about Florida-Georgia and it's rivalry. The rivalry began (depending on who you talk to, for sake of argument we'll take the Gators side) November 6, 1915 in Jacksonville with a Georgia win. Yeah you read that right 1915. Some 43 yrs from the time of the first Florida-Florida State game. The game has also been consistently played in Jacksonville every year since 1933. The record is (according to Florida records) Georgia leads the rivalry 49-42-2.

Historically speaking, Florida-Florida State began "Officially" in November 22, 1958. There's some talk about the Florida Men's Seminary school but I'm not counting that. Florida leads the rivalry 34-23-2. Now I did not take into account the Bowl games, because we are strictly speaking of the "game at the end of November".

Why do I need Georgia to lay down? Because if Florida wins, FSU has a 60% chance of beating Florida Thanksgiving weekend. I know that's only 10% more than a 50/50 chance, but I'll take it. Go Gators (Florida-Georgia weekend only).

Unconquered.

Blake Bortles, We Need To Have A Talk

I've tried to wait to write this blog but after the game today, it just can't wait.

Blake Bortles. Yes, you. You and I need to have a discussion. I hardly ever question playcalling. I questioned it when Seattle threw into the end zone instead of sending Marshawn Lynch and lost the Super Bowl. I have watched many years of football. I'm not going to tell you how many because I do not want to tell my age. But we'll safely say longer than you've been alive. I might not know about all the plays. I know when a blitz is coming, I know the "I" formation. I understand 4-3 and 3-4.

However, the next time you compare yourself to me and refer to me as a "kindergartner" and you a "college student", you need to re-think that. I have these things called "EYES". They don't lie. And what your team is showing me does not pass the eye test. IT JUST DOESN'T!!!!!!

You speak of that which you know NOTHING about. What is that you might ask?! The long-suffering of the Jaguar fan. You know nothing about sitting in seats. You know nothing about how this feels to spend good hard earned money, being told a team is built, and then being told "well we might have made a mistake by going to young". Oh yeah, ya think? I think, I see!!! That makes me NOT a kindergartner.

You see, Blake, I've been in those seats for 11 years. And for most of those 11 years (Let me explain to you, Blake, That means for at least 6-8 years), we have been taken to a place called rebuilding. Rebuilding has meant many a things. I won't go into what all those things are since you are a college student and I'm a kindergartner. But what it means most to me is I have watched a losing team for the majority of my season ticket holderhood. And I'm really really tired of it.

Notice I haven't called any attention to play calling. Have I? No. I'm more worried about the crappy execution, which I keep getting promised by Gus Bradley, is going to EVENTUALLY go the other way?! As a college student, can you tell me how long should I need to wait? I'm just a kindergartner so I have no concept of time.

(Oh and I'm on Instagram, so I saw the #TBT of you and your kindergarten teacher after you made that statement. I didn't think it was cute.)

So don't tell me how I'm a kindergartner and you are a college student. Tell me why you keep throwing interceptions and also, tell me why your a college student and I'm a FREAKING kindergartner. Tell me again, BLAKE!!!!!

This Is Missouri and You Must SHOW ME

Well. Like Urban Meyer saying he needed a break from coaching because of his heart, I lied. May 15th, I blogged I would be back and better than ever. Unfortunately, I suffered from Post Traumatic Football Syndrome. An underwhelming last season from the Jags, a dismal performance from FSU in the Rose Bowl Playoff Game, and to top it all off, Dante Fowler tearing his ACL in the first OTA. There's only so much a football chick can take. There may or may not have been a few tears shed over these events. Yes I know, there's no crying in football. I was so overwhelmed. I couldn't trash talk. Well, I could trash talk but only about the Florida Gators. But that gets old after awhile.

Before I know it, there's a new season and it's time to pull myself up by the boot straps.

So. Here I am. I'm wondering how in the world FSU will do it without Jameis Winston. How will the Jaguars and Gus Bradley perform so that we don't start over with a new regime if a lackluster season occurs. How. HOW.

How will this all be done?

It sort of reminds me of the season the Jags had a couple of years ago with Josh Scobee's 59 yard field goal and David Garrard's Hail Mary. That was awesome. I was so naive the next season and became devastated when Garrard was cut and we sucked. When will we be good again? WHEN?

Ok. So I've whined sufficiently.

I want to believe Sean Maguire at FSU can show me something and if he can't Everett Golson is behind him. I want to believe BoBo Wilson can show me some amazing Wide Receiving. Derwin James and Jalen Ramsey..... There are closer than anyone to being elite.

I want to believe Blake Bortles can show me something. I want to believe Allen Robinson and Rashad Greene can show me something. I want to believe the defense is at the ready (especially after all the crying Victor Cruz from the Giants did after we played them). That O-Line though.....

So you're asking what the point is. The point is, this might be Jacksonville, Florida but really this is Missouri. And you MUST "Show Me".

SHOW ME.

Football Hiatus: No More!!

So, it's been almost 4 months since my last post. Lots of things have happened in my life and football has taken a 3rd row seat.  So I hopefully plan on churning out several blogs in the next week or so. It's amazing isn't it? What pushes us to be passionate?

Is it someone who has broken a relationship dear to us (not necessarily of the opposite sex but more like divorcing a family member of yours)? Is it a situation that makes us sit down and think "what's wrong with this"? Or is it a passionate interest in something you love?

I was given the opportunity to give up this blog and become an employee of an organization. I turned it down. Truth be told, I was giving up FaceBook and Twitter as well. Now I'll be the first to tell you, I am no Twitter maven. None of my friends are active on Twitter, but I always know the juice on everything usually as it happens. I definitely follow the right people.

This blog is nothing important in the grand scheme of things. But it's important to me. I often have trouble communicating my knowledge unless I can trash talk. Trash talk seems to be the only way some people will listen.

Yes. I have been described as a wallflower, but I AM NOT FILTH that even Paul Finebaum thinks I am. More on that later.

I could not give up my version of saying how I feel in this blog. There is no reporting here, only my opinions. No, I am no English major. But I try really hard to make sense and spell things right. So, if you are reading this, I thank you. If you know someone who might like it, please share. And if anyone knows anybody in Antarctica, could you please have them read one blog post??!! If I can get Antarctica, then all seven continents will have read Ramblings Of A Football Chick.

Thanks again!!

Urban Meyer:Bandwagon Coach

Shortly after Urban Meyer, coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, won what the analysts say is the most "legitimate" National Championship of our time (insert eye roll), everyone i.e.- Kirk Herbstreit, began saying that Meyer had the best winning percentage of any coach since World War II. Yeah?
HOLD ON PLAYA.
I don't doubt those numbers, but is winning the only thing that matters when we are speaking about coaches? Or, how many coaching vacancies has one filled and how many years do they stay?
Let's start with the first question: Is winning the only thing? Well no. It's not the only thing, but it sure doesn't hurt. Bill Parcells once said in regards to Lawrence Taylor, my job as a coach is to make men better players and better men. Now I'm paraphrasing, but can we say that's what Urban Meyer does? Ahem. Aaron Hernandez. He's allegedly killed how many people? Reportedly, Urban couldn't wait to get rid of him. Percy Harvin. Percy didn't like doing stairs to warm-up during practice, so Meyer changed warm-ups to shooting hoops. Really? Why is Braxton Miller "flirting" with Jimbo Fisher and FSU football?! Because he knows he's knows he's not in a pro style offense at OSU. He wants to go first round like all of Jimbo's QBs. I'm not saying they are wildly successful after that, but they go 1st round.  Tim Tebow was perfect as far as off the field. Arguably, Meyer could've done some things to help with his mechanics but chose not to because he was so good at the college level. However, that hurt him on a professional level. Those are the obvious examples.
Let's talk about how many places Meyer has been a head coach and how long he was there:
Bowling Green: 2001-2002
Utah: 2003-2004
Florida: 2005-2010

Urban Meyer Heat Attack - Tebow leaves, FSU loss?! I'm coming to join you Elizabeth/OSU

Ohio State: 2012-present

As you can see, he hasn't been anywhere over 5 years. His worst season record as a head coach came in his last year at Florida and without Tim Tebow, 8-5. Suddenly he had family and health concerns and needed to leave Florida. Then 10 months later, he was suddenly swooped up by Ohio State. If I was an Ohio State fan, I would be waiting for the other shoe to drop. Just know, Urban Meyer is leaving sooner rather than later. Urban Meyer is a Bandwagon Coach.

"You can say I'm just a Hater,
But I'm not the only one.
One day,
Ohio State fans,
 you'll join us,
And the football world
Will be as one."

FSU Football Fandom Gone Astray

******BITTER ALERT*****
******Update Down Below***

You ever had that feeling that you know too much about something. You love it but at some point it's like being shown how sausage is made? It sneaks up on you. Suddenly, there you are, driving down the road, with Lancôme Mascara streaming down your face. Meanwhile, your team, FSU is getting schooled by some Johnny-Come-Lately, Oregon, who by the way, only knows how to play one type of football: Hurry-Up. Seriously??!! That's your answer to what's supposed to be a chess-like game?! Speed dating??!! Do you think that will serve Marcus Mariota well in the NFL?! Unless he goes to Chip Kelly's team, the Philadelphia Eagles, that will not serve him well. He will have to learn how to read defenses and quickly. He won't be able to hurry back to the line of scrimmage, call a play, and then get the play off. NFL is bigger, faster, stronger. Anyone else notice what a friend of mine noticed about the Eagles this year??!! How they petered out after 2/3-3/4 of the season?
Why is that? Let me explain: The NFL is 16 regular season games + 4 pre-season games+ however far you make it to the playoffs. And to get to the Super Bowl that could be 3-4 games depending on whether or not you have a BYE the first week ( I could be wrong about those numbers but just go with me here). So, to get to a Super Bowl, that's the ultimate goal, you have to play around 23-24 games.
College is 12 games+ Conference Championship 1 game+ 2 playoff games. So we are talking 15 games. (Also, I believe college can have more players which makes rotating in and out better, facilitating the hurry-up offense).
So, we are talking an 8-9 game difference. That means 8-9 more games and chances for injury in the NFL. That means that more than likely you will get the best out of your players early. And we all know that the successful teams get hot later in the season and that is what gets them a long way in the playoffs. And Hurry-up does not favor that.
(Incidentally, John Gruden says the only way to stop Hurry-Up is to get your lineman to cry cramp on every other play. LOL.)
Another reason for Hurry-up is that you get the next play out of the gate before penalties get assessed, quite frankly. If the flag is not thrown to stop the play, any debate or discussion doesn't matter because Oregon already has the ball off onto the next play and God Bless them, the refs were SEC. We all know about SEC refs and what they stand for: So Everybody Cheats.

Am I bitter? Absolutely. And we won't even go into the "NOOOOO MEANS NOOOOO" debate. Who started it BLAH BLAH BLAH. That was an insult to the Seminole tribe and women. But whatever.

Was it ever really my intention to be able to know/observe all these things? No. I just want to enjoy the game. That has almost assuredly become impossible due in part to the knowledge I have gained. I personally believe that it could be from winning 29 games and losing 1 really important game last. More importantly, I wouldn't change that for the world.

Special shout out to the all the FSU players leaving to play in the NFL. I will miss you on Saturday but look for you on Sunday.

Apparently, the 2 Oregon players were drug tested BEFORE the Rose Bowl and tested positive for drug use, whether it was recreational or otherwise I don't know. I don't know when results were given, but they won't play in the National Championship game. Timing. It's everything. Anybody ready for a do-over?!?

We Win As A Team We Lose As A Team

It has been a rough almost 48 hrs. Sitting at my perch here at Biscottis. Wearing my jeans black shirt and hat. Just sitting here trying not to lose it (having just seen a house on my way here decked out in Oregon crap that's never had Oregon crap on it before #Bandwagoner.) My beloved Seminoles, who had won 29 games in a row, lost to the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl. I was crushed. Crushed on a level that has never been seen in my fandom. I can't imagine how the players felt. Playing on one of the largest stages in football, turning the ball over 5 times, and not being perfect anymore.
Not being perfect anymore.  That has to be a difficult pill to swallow. I can't imagine how it feels. Unfortunately, that thought did not keep itself on the field. When the Seminoles and their staff returned to Tallahassee last night, amid much fanfare, after they signed autographs and returned to their cars, they found a surprise. Some of their tires had been slashed and their cars had been keyed. Keep in my mind, they can't accept money from anyone to fix it. It's up to them or their insurance (Lord only knows if they have it or what their deductibles are). How stupid is that?! People, I HATE to lose. I'm not the one playing. I can't imagine how they feel and on top of that, having their cars vandalized.

EVERYONE needs to get a hold of themselves. Let me define everyone:
1. Johnny-Come-Lately fans (fans that made themselves fans in the last 29 games). Truth be told. We don't need you. A group of you probably did the vandalizing.
2. Haters of the Seminoles. For example, Gators, Canes, Clempsun, Auburn, Roll Tide. Did I miss anyone? Just because we beat you (except Alabama-we never played you) and Oregon beat us, doesn't make you an Oregon Duck.
3.Oregon players chanting "No means No". Number one that's a sacred chant. We are able to use it because we get permission through the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Number 2 your school has been recognized as having a HUGE sexual assault problem. Like 10% of the female students. So, you aren't funny. And you WON'T be disciplined but that's ok. #Karma.
4. All those people out there whether they are Bible class teachers or fans of other teams that want to judge Jameis Winston.(He's from Alabama so he started out your problem) Have you read anything!? Let's start talking a bunch of crap about Mariota or Braxton Miller or Blake Sims or Treon Harris, oh wait... You would defend your player too.

You come at my team, you come at me. We win together, we lose together.

I will neither confirm nor deny the mascara streaked cheeks. #TheresNoCryingInFootball

Opposing Fan Code Of Conduct For Everbank Field Home Of The Jacksonville Jaguars

If you missed my previous post, that's unfortunate. However, feel free to back track or just read below. There have been so many problems with opposing fans in our stadium, I felt as if the Opposing Fan Code of Conduct needed to be updated. Who better to do it than MDK??!! Persecuted and abused at the hands of opposing fans, then like a Phoenix from the Ashes:

Everbank Field, Home of the Jacksonville Jaguars Opposing Fan Code Of Conduct

1. Cheer when your team does something good. Then sit down and shut up.
2. Do not plant yourself in my seat. It's mine. I paid for it. Go sit in your assigned/designated seat and leave me alone.
3. You have a corresponding side of the stadium if you are a fan of the opposing team. If you wish to jack someone's seats, go there and do it.

Let Security Carry 'em Out: A Jaguar Fan's Code of Conduct for Opposing Teams

-Watch out for my medallions, my diamonds are reckless, feels like a midget's hanging from my necklace.

(Anytime you say "Let Security carry'em out," you must follow with the necklace part.)

In the past several weeks, I've noticed several things regarding fan codes of conduct. In Everbank Field, home of the Jaguars: there is no opposing fan code of conduct. Not one that I've seen. When at LG field for the Titans came, there was a clear opposing fan code of conduct at the gate. I need to know why there isn't one at Everbank field. If there is one, it needs to be more noticeable.

Why is this a big deal??!! Because I pay good money to sit in my seat and I continually get disrespected every single game by opposing fans. To the point of not wanting to sit in my seats anymore. Even a small part of me that says, "I still support my team, but I can't take the abuse. Maybe I should sit at home and watch the game."

If you are new here, you probably think "well, she must be a new season ticket member". Well no, I'm not new. I've been here 10 years and have the pin to prove it.

However, several weeks ago, I had a Stealer's fan (as in stealing my joy) in her short but very popular lace shorts, shake "herself" in my face as she walks down the aisle, directly in front of me and my 9 year old nephew, when the Stealers intercepted Blake Bortles. Albeit, to a seat that wasn't hers.

"Oh ok. This is an aberrancy." No. It's not.

This past week, when the Dul-phins were here, I had the added bonus of getting up and going to the bathroom and coming back to 2 guys sitting in my seats. Alas, where did they come from? From the Bud (aka Drunk) Zone. I immediately motioned for them to get out of my seat, that I had arrived to take my seats back. WWHHHATTTTT!!!????

The 2 seats next to me were empty the whole game until I returned to my seat from the bathroom. There was a very drunk UCF fan next to me, who was passed out asleep. Next to him, was a
Dul-Phins fan who was on his way to being very drunk also. That guy was using chewing tobacco and spitting it into an aluminum bottle with no lid. He got very agitated when the Dul-Phins did something wrong on the field and hit the bottle just right with his other hand. And then it happened. I ended up with chewing tobacco and spit on my right hand. How am I sure? I smelled it. It was nasty and I had no napkin to wipe it off. So, with about 8 minutes to go in the 4th quarter, I vacated my seats to wash my hands and exit the stadium. On my way out , I mentioned the incidents to security and left.

So, I have come up with several rules:

4. Do not become disrespectful to my team and myself when my team does something "bad" and your team does something "good".
5. Please do not get drunk in my stadium. If you throw up on me, you will have a bad time.
6. Feel free to take your shenanigans to the parking lot and express them.

I refuse to leave. I will fight this battle until I am victorious or move to Club seats.

Really?! Together we make football?!

I don't know about you but I've been seeing these ads that are supposed to pull at the heartstrings about everyone's different experiences about why they love football. Obviously geared towards women to pull them in. Well, honey, let me tell you something. I don't need any mushy gushy nonsense. I am safe and secure in the reasons why I love football. I'm sure their stories are nice, but crying isn't my thing (at least crying for no reason). I am sure this is all nice and everything, but they have it wrong. We don't make football. Football makes us.

Yes. You read that right. Football Makes Us.

I've heard several football players make the statement "Football is what I do not who I am". And I can appreciate that. But we aren't talking about that. We are talking about fans.

Speaking from personal experience, I can safely say I've never been a bandwagonner.  Nor will I ever be. My loyalties lie in a place that is impenetrable. Can you say you would remain loyal to a team with an iconic coach who for the last 7ish years of his career at FSU continued to coach in the same manner that he had for the last 40 yrs and felt no need to change? I love Bobby but it was time. Can you say you would remain loyal to a team that promised 8 of the last 10 yrs you've been a Jacksonville Jaguar season ticket holder that they were in the midst of a rebuild and it would be "1 more year"!? No. You have no idea.  Because most of you have rooted for the Broncos, Patriots, Packers and Giants. You have no idea what it's like to sit in seats in 90+ degree weather and lose close and sometimes not so close. You have to put up with a league that relishes in belittling a small market franchise albeit one of their own franchises. It's an act of humility, loyalty, perseverance, and at times self-loathing to continue to believe in the team I love. It makes you a tough person. It makes you thick skinned. So while your watching all that PC mushy gushy non-sense, know this. Somewhere in North Florida a girl, a woman, a lady sweats in a teal seat and football has made her.

Jaguars Point Of View: First Things First, I'm A Realist

In the great and wise words of Iggy Azalea we hear: "First things first, I'm a realist." Regarding the Jaguars, I know what I saw in the game against Washington on Sunday. I DON'T NEED TO DEPEND ON THE EYES AND THOUGHTS OF OTHERS. I'm tired of seeing the rants: It's Henne, It's the Offensive Line, It's both, or the Defense stinks. I believe in the 24 hour rule. Personally I'm ready to move on. No I don't care if Henne plays. No I don't care if they start Bortles. I don't care to hear it. I'm tired of reading it. This is still my team. I didn't like what I saw but I'm still here. It's like when my dog does something bad, I still love her, but I got my eyes on her. Do I want to win? YES!! But a front office that listens to the fans will sit with them. Seriously. It's nearing the 24 hour mark and it's time to put up and shut up.

Personally, this why we play Fantasy Football isn't it? We get to pick who we want to play on our team, who we want to start and who we want to bench. It's a control thing.

So, if it takes logging off Facebook for a few days I will. If it takes divorcing myself from Jaguar fan pages, I'll do that too.

I know what I see and hear. I don't need any help. Thanks.

Remembering One of the Greats: Mr. Tattoo

It has been three years since my sweet Smooth Collie, Tattoo, passed away. I still miss him. He was quite the Jaguars fan and really loved managing our Fantasy football team, Tattoo's Team. He loved for me to leave the Jaguars games on when I went to the stadium to watch games. I would even dress him in a Jaguar Santa hat and scarf for our Christmas Card. He was quite the gentlemen.

I adopted him from Collies Florida Rescue. He was a very special boy to his foster mom, Margo. Her and Joyce saved him from Polk County Animal Control. AC actually thought he was a girl and sometime later I had to come up with pictures to prove he wasn't. LOL.

Several months prior to his passing, our home flooded and I had to board him for a month. I would go and visit, but he really needed to be home.  I finally got him home.  Shortly after that, he was having a hard time with his back legs. They would sink to the ground if he stood still. It progressively got worse. And yes, I was taking him to the vet and they were treating him with Acupuncture and Chiropractic. He would do better and then revert back. About 2 weeks before he passed I was taking him to the vet and he unexpectedly began pooping in my backseat. It was solid thank heavens. I pulled over to a parking lot and began to "get rid of the evidence." I don't know if anyone has ever had this happen, but you want this out of your car ASAP. So began dumping it out of my car onto the parking lot, and a "man" comes hauling butt in his 1985 Chevy Suburban yelling and screaming obscenities. " you blankety blankety woman what the blankety blank are you doing, you pick up that blankety blank blank off this asphalt and get your blankety blank out of here." At this point I was crying. Crying because I knew my dog was not going to live long and crying because this Jackwagon was screaming like I had stolen a rug from his establishment. In hindsight, I realize that this was probably not somewhere I should do it, but honestly there was no where else to go. I guess the perfectly, I mean perfectly asphalted and line painted jumbo parking lot that was never full and had the occasional Rolls Royce should have tipped me off but honestly I was more concerned about my dog than I was the carpet company that probably ships their rugs with elephant dung covering them. And yes I am still bitter. This Jackwagon made me sob, feel ashamed for what I had done. But also because I drove about 10 miles to the vets office with dog poo on napkins in my left hand. I'm not sure why I didn't stop somewhere else and throw it away but I was rattled. If you are reading this, you are probably wondering why I'm droning on and on. Well, I read a blog I believe it was "The Happy Hausfrau". She's pretty smart lady and has some really hard experiences and she's funny. She was speaking about something terrible that happened to her and the person that did it to her showed up on her Facebook page as a suggested friend. Well, that didn't happen but this rug company did show up in my social media. They want to follow me on Instagram. I'm sure they don't know who I am. I know they don't really want to go there.

Showing his Seminole Pride

Those things aside, around 2 weeks later Tattoo passed. Before I took him to the vet, we watched one final Jaguars game together. I stroked his fur and told him continuously how much I loved him and how much he meant to me. The Jaguars won that game. And to tell you the truth neither the Jaguars nor myself have been the same since.

Managing the Fantasy Team

I prefer to remember him like this. This was taken shortly after I adopted him.

Furever in our hearts, Mr. Tattoo.

Josh Gordon: What's Good For The Goose....

I didn't get a chance to blog about this Thursday before last, when it was a hot topic, but to me it's still worth talking about.
The news about Josh Gordon's 1 year suspension sent "shock waves" around the league. The questions began. "Why should he get 1 yr? Maybe the League is too harsh on Marijuana infractions?! Shouldn't Josh be allowed more inclusion to his team EVEN though he's suspended"?! It was like a literal love fest for Josh Gordon. The man smoked pot and got busted. He even tried to say it was second hand smoke (I mean really!).  Let me get this right. This Wide Receiver, Josh Gordon, who plays for the Browns (*Snicker*), is a Fantasy Football hero in many circles, is on a team that has had 20 something Quarterbacks in 15 yrs, plays on the same team with Johnny Manziel and all of these things make a case for "bending" the rules for a player that can't be bothered with trying to follow the rules and stay clean?! Hold On Playa.
Everybody is losing their minds over Josh Gordon and I'm over here like what about Justin Blackmon? What about letting him be closer to HIS team? He SURELY hasn't been helped with the distance that comes from suspension. Did anyone think of him this week when leniency ruled the day for JG?! No. Not one person. But I did. Because once you are on my team, you are on my team. Lots of similarities between JG and Justin Blackmon. Both in trouble in college and come into the NFL with those same problems.
Unfortunately, I have to wonder why no one felt this way about Justin Blackmon last year? Was it lackluster Quarterback play that would likely not garner much attention, fantasy football or otherwise? Was it that he played for Jacksonville Jaguars and we are considered low man on the totem pole in the NFL? Jacksonville: not storied enough, not proven enough, no rabid fan base? Please. You don't even know me.
Well, Josh Gordon, I just want you to know, second hand pot smoke or not, What's Good For The Goose Is Good For The Gander. You aren't better than Justin Blackmon. Please get clean and stay clean.

PS- Peeps. I can't say this enough. There is nothing, NOTHING, special about the Browns. But guess what?! The NFL and the Players Union are now "negotiating" to find a better solution than 1 yr suspensions. I will repeat. Where was everyone when Justin Blackmon was suspended last year?! Oh yeah. I forgot. He's JUST a Jaguar.

The Pulling Of The Jaguar Football Man Card

Saturday, July 26th, was the unveiling of the Gigantic Video boards at Everbank Stadium, home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I was having a rather quiet day. I ate breakfast at my favorite spot by myself quietly.  I had some almond biscotti frozen yogurt at my favorite place, Yobe. Dropped some tickets for my friend for the night's festivities to her house. Then I made my way to get a pedicure.  I only go to one place EVER!! It's the Nail Zone.  They always have my favorite color, Fly by OPI ( it's a teal color, shocking I know) and they are very clean. I had to wait, but that's ok. I was a walk in.  The place was packed and there was a guy, 48-55, getting a pedicure in the chair next to me. No. This is not why I wanted to pull his man card, but it sure didn't help him either. As I'm waiting with my feet soaking I hear and exchange he's having with the girl doing his pedicure. It went something like this:
Girl- "Do you have plans tonight?"
Guy-"Yes. We are going to the Unveiling Of the New Video Boards."
Girl- "Yeah?! That sounds like fun!"
Guy- " it would be a whole lot more fun if the Jaguars would spend the money on making the team better by getting better players with the money they are spending on bigger video boards!"

Hold On Playa. This guy thinks that the Jaguars can spend as much as the owner has available to get better players. My head literally exploded. Here I am ( I won't say how old I am) thinking "I'm a girl!! Are you telling me I understand this better than this guy who's older than me and and..... My mind was racing. Now full disclosure being what it is, I DO NOT know EVERYTHING about football. But Buddy I sure do try. Even I know every team has the same amount to spend on players. The amount of money is not dependent on the wealth of the owner. Good grief. I had to ask myself "Why is this guy sooo misguided?"

Unfortunately, a history lesson is in order. ( I have to say I'm not picking on the University of Florida Gators, I promise.) In the state of Florida, there are 2 schools. The University of Florida and Florida State Unviversity. UF was the all boys school. FSU was the all girls school.  UF has been playing football for around 100 yrs.  FSU has been playing football since it went Co-Ed in 1947, roughly. So in North Florida until 1995, all that is known is college football most of which is Gator football. Which is fine, but when there's a new Sheriff (NFL) in town, you best learn some things before you open your mouth.
College and NFL are very different. In the NFL, the team picks the players. In college, the players pick where they want to go. The players don't get paid in college. They get paid in the NFL.
I could literally go on all day. But the differences are many.

I mean does the guy read the Times-Union?! There was a huge article about Tim Walsh, the guy who is in charge of keeping minute to minute salary cap totals for the Jaguars. These things are important to know. Tim Walsh meet Pedicure Guy. Pedicure Guy meet Tim Walsh.

I know. I should've said something.  I was paralyzed with fear. Fear that I might get crazy because he's talking ridiculousness. Seriously. I try my best as a girl to make sure I have my facts straight before opening my mouth. I try to know everything about something I love and am passionate about. Kinda like you would about someone you're going to marry. You don't want to be caught off guard by something you didn't research thoroughly. (Many stories to be told on that one)

So, in review, Video boards have NOTHING to do with Player salaries. I'm pretty sure if I asked this guy if a guy needs 1 or 2 feet in bounds to make a catch, he would say 1. It's ok. I got his Jaguar Football Man Card.

Consider Bobby (Bowden) for Sainthood

In football, the next month or 2 is called "The Dead Zone". In my boredom, I decided since ESPNU is showing bowl games from January, I would DVR the most important ones, the Fiesta bowl (Blake Bortles), and the National Championship (FSU). In the last few days, I've watched the National Championship 3 or 4 times and I was thinking about the other important FSU games I had on DVD.

Several years ago, the greatest end to a coaching career happened in Jacksonville, Florida. Bobby Bowden, longtime head coach of the FSU Seminoles, coached his last game on January 1, 2010. I was in attendance with a very homemade sign. I remembered before I left the house to DVR the game just in case my sign made it. I was so happy to see my coach in action one last time.  Many times I meant to watch the game on DVR. But I didn't. I was sad, unsure of Jimbo. I knew if I watched it, then surely it must be true: it was his final game.

About a year or so after the game was played, my cable provider, AT&T Uverse, had to come out and fix something. Well, they end up taking the main box. The box that had all my saved games: Bobby's last game, David Garrard Hail Mary and Scobee's 59 yd field goal.  I was so upset. Distraught even. After a week or two and a few very choice, angry, and stern words with U-Verse ( and oh by the way the box wasn't broken. It was something else..... They had taken my box unnecessarily.), I got on the internet and started searching for Bobby's final game.  Found and ordered. Then I searched for the 2 FSU National Championship games. Found and ordered.

Fast forward to today. Today, I decided to watch Bobby Bowden's last game. It seemed like the natural thing to do.  Now that I have, it only seems right.  I was at Doak Campbell last year for Bobby's return. It was Jimbo's team now and watching the National Championship game from January solidified that.  (You can read more about that in the post "My Apology To Jimbo Fisher") as I was casually watching it and inboxing a friend on Facebook, I looked up to the TV to see this:

IT WAS MY SIGN!!!!

I'm sure to most of you, this isn't news. But for this Bobby fan, there were some damp eyes and great memories revisited.

Bobby I Love You!!

Unbeweavable

Today was a sad day in Jacksonville, Florida. The Jaguars released Jason Babin. Some say he was too old or there were too many at his position. Also, the reason stated for his quick release was so he could get on with another team. Although he was labeled problematic by other teams, Babin seemed to thrive here. I remember the first home game he played here. After the game, his wife and 2 sons waited for him to come out and they took pictures with Touchdown (the huge Jaguar statue in front of the West Touchdown Club) while waving styrofoam paws. His first home game just so happened to fall in the middle of a season. Him and his family were All In. It was one of the sweetest things I've seen as a fan.

I won't say much more because we all know football is a business. It's ever changing. Last year during a game, Babin apparently got a piece of somebody. Of their weave or dreads. It was one the funniest things I've ever seen and is immortalized below. Let's all bow our heads and wish Jason Babin, Godspeed wherever him and his sweet family reside.

We'll always have this:

Thanks for the memories.
